Delhi Government has intensified drive against traders and transporters bringing undeclared goods to the capital from other states and had impounded 250 vehicles last month.
Trade & Taxes Commissioner of Delhi, S S Yadav said that an amount of Rs 2 crores were realized from these vehicles in December.
Yadav said the department has deployed teams at the entry points of the city, railway stations, major markets and other places across the city round the clock to check vehicles and take action against defaulters.
"Last month, more than 10,000 vehicles were checked by the teams of the Trade & Taxes Department and 250 vehicles carrying goods without any supporting documents were detected and consequently detained by the teams. Valuation of goods in the detained vehicles was done and penalty as per the Act was imposed.
"The vehicles were released after realization of tax and penalty. An amount of Rs 2 crore has been realized from such vehicles in the last one month only," he said in a statement.
Yadav further said that department has also taken up a project to install automatic number plate reading cameras at all entry points of Delhi. These cameras capture the registration number of each vehicle entering Delhi automatically and transmit that data to the server of the Department.
