Rs 20 lakh cheque given to Udhampur attack martyr's family

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today handed over a cheque of Rs 20 lakh to the family of BSF constable Rocky who laid down his life fighting militants in the recent terror attack at Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rocky's father Pritpal and mother Angrejo Devi received the cheque from the Chief Minister. His brother Rohit Kumar, sister Neha and other family members were also present on this occasion.
Born on September 15, 1990, Rocky, a resident of village Ramgarh Majra, Bilaspur, in district Yamunanagar, joined the Border Security Force in 2012 and was serving in the 59th Battalion.
On August 5, Rocky had safeguarded the lives of 44 unarmed personnel when he emptied his entire magazine containing 40 bullets at two heavily-armed militants who had attacked the BSF convoy in Udhampur.
Speaking on the occasion today, Khattar said the state government would extend every possible support and cooperation to Rocky's family and assured a government job to one family member.
On August 12, the Chief Minister had visited Ramgarh Majra, the martyr's native village in Haryana's Yamunanagar district, to pay his tributes. There he had announced Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance and a government job for one member of the family.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman said the state government had increased the amount of ex-gratia and compensation being given to the family of soldiers from the state who are killed or disabled in terrorism-related incidents.

The amount of compensation on getting injured in a terrorist attack, during war or any other incident has been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs 15 lakh depending upon the percentage of disability.
Similarly, ex-gratia amount given for death during war has been increased from Rs two lakh to Rs 20 lakh. In case of death or disability during IED blast, the amount of compensation has been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs 15 lakh on the basis of percentage of disability.
Those officers of the armed forces who have been awarded Sena Medal for distinguished services and devotion to duty prior to March 31, 2008 and February 19, 2014 were given cash amount of Rs 34,000 and Rs 35,000 as annuity whereas, those who received the award after February 19, 2014 were given a lump sum amount of Rs 1.75 lakh as award money.
