Rs 27 lakh seized, three detained

Unaccounted cash worth Rs 27 lakh have been seized and three persons were detained from Darbhanga, Purnia and Banka districts of Bihar, the police said today.
A police team detained one person after seizing Rs 14 lakh from an autorickshaw near the Women's Institute of Technology under the University police station area in Darbhanga district last night, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aditya Kumar said.
The man, identified as Santosh Jha, a native of Jajuar village under Arer police station area of neighbouring Madhubani district, was detained and handed over to the Income Tax sleuths, the ASP said.
A report from Purnia district said cash worth Rs 9.92 lakh was seized from a jeep near Katihar Crossing under Sadar police station area and its driver detained for questioning, according to Superintendent of Police, Ajit Kumar Satyarthi.
A maize merchant who was travelling in the vehicle with the cash managed to escape, he said.
In another seizure of cash, police recovered Rs three lakh from a motorcycle and detained the biker Arvind Singh for questioning in Banka district, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Shashi Shankar said.
