Puducherry Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today said government had drawn up plans to construct houses for rehabilitation of fishermen and their families in the coastal hamlets in the Union Territory at a cost of Rs 35 crore.
Winding up the two-day debate today on the motion of thanks to Lt Governor A K Singh for his address, the Chief Minister said government was earmarked Rs 188 crore as part of the budgetary allocations by the Central government under Disaster Management and Relief scheme.
"We would make use of Rs 35 crore from out of this allocation to construct houses for the benefit of the fishermen and their families," he said.
Rangasamy said discontinuation of various concessions and incentives by the previous UPA government for Puducherry for rapid industrialisation had resulted in setback in industrial scenario in the Union Territory.
He said he had already urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revive the concessions and incentives so that more investors could be attracted to commence their enterprises here. "I will also reiterate the plea again by meeting the Prime Minister," he said.
Rangasamy assured the members that steps had already been taken to ensure that Puducherry faced no power cut.
