Highlighting the measures undertaken for the Dal dwellers, Tara Chand said, "A special package has been sanctioned by the central cabinet for rehabilitation and re-settlement of over 11,000 families."

He added that a modern colony is coming up at Rakh-e-Arth for the dwellers.

On the rehabilitation and cleaning works, the deputy CM said a multi-faceted approach is being followed to preserve the lake and ensure that the ecosystem does not get disturbed.

"Sophisticated machines have been pressed into service for dragging and sewerage treatment plants (STPs) have been constructed to check entry of sewerage into the land," he said

To keep a tab on encroachment, Chand said, a task force would be constituted to review the cases of illegal possession on government land.

He added that the government has taken several steps to check the issue of encroachment and throughout the state a large chunk of land had been cleared from illegal possession.

"Systematic approach is being followed to address the issue and recently the JDA got cleared more than 700 kanals (over 87 acres) of land in Sidhra and over 300 kanals (over 37 acres) in Tawi," Tara Chand said.
