Rs 4.45 cr central grant for 12th Century saivite temple

The Union Tourism Ministry has earmarked Rs 4.45 crore to augment amenities for pilgrims and to refurbish infrastructure at the 12th century Tirukameeswarar temple in neighbouring Villianoor.
Speaking to reporters here today, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said the temple was earlier granted Rs five crore during his tenure as Minister of State in PMO office during the previous UPA regime.
He said the Tourism Ministry had now released another Rs 4.45 crore grant to lay footpaths around the outer segments, improve the road through which the temple chariot would be taken during annual car festival, to lay grass fields, to desilt the temple tank and to instal a CCTV camera.
Narayanasamy said that the Tourism Ministry had also released Rs 5.8 crore for another saivite temple in Tirukanchi village, falling within the jurisdiction of Villianoor commune panchayat to renovate the temple, improve the temple garden (nandhavanam) and to improve amenities for pilgrims.
