MACT Presiding Officer Madhu Jain directed United India Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending bus, to pay Rs 48,00,081 to the wife, parents and two siblings of victim Sanjiv Yadav, who suffered fatal injuries after his bike was run over in an accident last year.
The tribunal relied on the post mortem report of the victim, mechanical inspection reports of the vehicles, FIR and other documents while holding the bus driver guilty.
The driver was charge sheeted under sections 279 (rash driving), 337(endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A(causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
According to the petition filed by the family members of Sanjiv, who was working in a private company on a salary of Rs 15,000 per month, on July 14, 2014 he was going home on his bike from his work place when the accident took place.

When Sanjiv reached near Okhla Industrial Area, a bus driven in rash and negligent manner first hit a tempo and due to the impact, the tempo moved backward and ran over the motorcycle of the victim, it said.
During the proceedings, the insurance company offered Rs 17 lakh for settlement to the kin of the victim, but it was rejected by them.
No written statements were filed by the driver and owner of the bus, the tribunal noted.
