The DEMS chairperson Kesh Rani Neeldaman Khatri presented a proposal in this regard before a special meeting of standing committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation(NDMC) today.
The sanitary landfill site(SLF) at Bhalswa will be prepared for reuse and generation of electricity from garbage with inviting tenders, she said.
The garbage dumped at the huge site will be dug up to be ready for reuse. The garbage will be segregated and only organic waste will be dumped there.
In the current year, the department has revised budget estimate to Rs one crore spent on the site.
Khatri pointed to the standing committee that the areas under NDMC presently generate 3600 metric tonne of garbage per day.
Garbage generation in 2021 will go up to 7600 metric tonne per day and an area of 500 acre will be required for its disposal. In view of the scarcity of land for any new site revival of Bhalswa LFS is of prime importance for the civic body.
