"To meet the shortage of water in Jammu city, the Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) has formulated a project worth Rs 500 crore for getting water from river Chenab, which will solve the problem of drinking water for Jammu", Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said at a function here.
Jammu is facing a severe shortage of water supply.
The deputy chief minister said that the Mahamaya ropeway project for Jammu is also on the anvil to connect the city with Bahu fort and one of oldest temple complexes of Peerkho with Mahamaya city forest in Jammu.
The Mubarak Mandi heritage project is already under implementation, he said adding that Dogra heritage complex-- the seat of power of erstwhile Dogra kings will be made a heritage tourist attraction in the city.
The Jammu Airport is also being expanded and the Central Government has sanctioned a project worth Rs 78 crore and work is under progress, he said.
Tara Chand said that the state has witnessed a great influx of tourists and a record number of 6.5 lakh pilgrims visited the Amarnath shrine this year.
The state government's efforts to increase connectivity shall further boost the employment opportunities in the state, he said.
