RS 59 cr spent on sports infrastructure in Himachal: CM

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his government has spent over Rs 59 crore to develop sports infrastructure in last four years and Rs 8.32 crore for holding various sports activities in the state.
"The present state government has spent over Rs five crore on promoting the youth activities during this period," he said while addressing a public meeting at Nurpur, 70 km from here.
The CM announced renaming the local play ground of Nurpur Chaugan after freedom fighter Shaheed Wazir Ram Singh.
Singh also announced construction of playgrounds at Akhla Muari, Kopra, Garli Khad, Sulaili, Kadroh and Kamnaloh and a wrestling facility at Lamba Nallah, to be built at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, to promote sport activities in Nurpur area.
He expressed hope that the youth of Nurpur area would earn laurels for the state in the times to come.
The CM said 85 meritorious sportsperson were employed in different departments of the state government.
Five international medal winners of the 17th Asian Games held in South Korea were given cash prizes including the gold medal winners Ajay Thakur, Pooja Thakur and Kavita, silver medal winner Vijay Kumar and bronze medal winner Samresh Jang.
The Gold medal winners were awarded Rs 20 lakh each while those winning silver and bronze given Rs 10 lakh and Rs six lakh, respectively, he said.
