However, the persons carrying the cash in the vehicle claimed that the money belonged to an urban cooperative bank and was being taken to its headquarters, police said.
An election squad, on duty on Osmanabad-Tuljapur bypass road, intercepted a car this morning and found six bags of demonetised currency notes of Rs 1,000 and 500 in it, they said.
The squad then alerted Tuljapur Police Station, following which police personnel reached the spot and detained the persons who were in the vehicle, police said, adding the vehicle was also impounded.
Meanwhile, statements of those detained are being recorded and Osmanabad police have started 'in-camera' counting of the currency as part of its verification process.
