Rs.7.5 lakh worth sandal wood seized, two arrested

Sandalwood logs worth about Rs.7.5 lakh and being smuggled have been seized from a car which was abandoned by a four-member gang near Alandurai on the city outskirts and two persons arrested in this connection.
The gang abandoned the car and escaped on April 20 night on seeing a team of forest officials who kept a vigil in Anaikatty area based on a tip off that sandalwood was being smuggled, police said.
Investigation led to the arrest of two persons and a search was on for others, they said adding the value of the sandalwood was estimated at Rs.7.5 lakh.
