According to police, the incident occurred at around 6:30 PM outside the bank branch located at Dhampur on the Kalagarh road.
Just as driver Sumit and guard Dayaram had stepped out of the branch bearing the cash, they were accosted by unidentified assailants who fired at them, leaving them injured, before making off with the money. Police said that the assailants sped away on motorbikes.
The injured duo has been referred to a hospital in Meerut, police said, adding that searches have been launched in the area to nab the culprits.
