Hours after a Rajya Sabha member collapsed in Parliament and was hospitalised, the Upper House urged a woman TDP member, who was standing in the Well for hours to demand justice for Andhra Pradesh, to return to her seat and relax.
Thota Seetharama Lakshmi was holding a placard demanding special category for the state and standing in the Well of the House.
Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal told Basawaraj Patil, who was in the Chair, "today one member has fallen sick. The member standing is a woman, she will fall ill. You take a decision... this is not good. Fine, she is pained as injustice is being meted out to her state."
"Is this the way? The fault will be on you since you were in the Chair. Why do you want to take this fault on your head. Find a solution," Agarwal said.
Agarwal was referring to the case of another Rajya Sabha member from Odisha, A V Swamy, who was rushed to a hospital after he collapsed in the Parliament complex today.
After Agarwal, other members too asked Patil to request the woman member to go back to her seat and sit down.

Patil responded by saying he has told TDP leader C M Ramesh, who was in the Well besides Lakshmi, to "ask the sister to sit. It is not appropriate to keep standing. She should go back to her seat".
Lakshmi returned to her seat thereafter.
Earlier after Swamy was hospitalised, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu informed the House that he had fallen down and was rushed for treatment. "Whether it was due to sugar level or some other reason, it is yet to be ascertained," Naidu said.
