Resolving to fight terrorism, the Rajya Sabha on Friday paid glowing tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the dastardly terrorist attack on the Parliament complex on December 13, 2001.

As soon as the House met for the day, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu paid homage to those killed in the attack on its 18th anniversary.

"On this day, this House recalls the supreme sacrifices of our security personnel including two of the parliamentary security service staff along with the five Delhi police personnel and a woman constable of the Central Reserved Police Force. One gardener of the CPWD and a cameraman of ANI were also martyred," Naidu said.

He said by their selfless act, these martyrs set an example of indomitable courage and outstanding devotion to duty.

"I am sure the whole House will join me in paying homage to these martyrs in expressing our profound gratitude to our brave security personnel who are vigilant and dutiful in protecting this temple of democracy," the Rajya Sabha Chairman said.

He said the Rajya Sabha expressed its strong resolve to fight terrorism with determination.

The members also observed silence as a mark of respect to the memory of those who lost their lives in the terror attack.
