RS polls: CBI carries out searches

During the operation spread across 18 locations in Jharkhand, Odisha, Delhi and Gurgaon in Haryana, premises of MLAs Bandhu Tirkey, Chamra Linda, Rajya Sabha candidate Pawan Kumar Dhoot in Delhi and Gurgaon and father of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Sita Soren among others were searched.

The CBI seized fixed deposit receipts worth Rs 40 lakh from the premises of father of Sita Soren, who is also the daugther-in-law of JMM leader Shibu Soren, CBI sources said.

The agency also recovered large number of vouchers allegedly showing inordinately huge expenditure incurred during March 2012 from the business premises of Dhoot in Gurgaon and his associates.

"Bank Pass Book & documents pertaining to alleged expenses incurred during and after March 2012 from the premises of two independent MLAs have been recovered," CBI spokesperson said in Delhi today.

The allegations of horse-trading during March 30 Rajya Sabha Elections in Jharkhand led to their countermanding by the Election Commission.

Dhoot was one of the independent candidates who had been in the fray for the two Rajya Sabha seats on March 30.
