In the Annual Performance Review Meeting and Award function organised recently, 'Green Initiative' award was presented by RSP's CEO G S Prasad, a release from RSP said.
The award winners comprised Civil Engineering Services (Plant), Civil Engineering Services (Projects), Town Engineering Department and Horticulture Department. It is noteworthy that this Award has been given for the first time.
It is worth mentioning here that, RSP has so far planted more than 42 lakh saplings and thereby created a girdle of green in and around Rourkela. The salubrious ambience and a luxuriant canopy of green have made Rourkela a nature lover's favourite spot, it said.
In 2014-15, about 42500 saplings have been planted by the Horticulture department of RSP in Rourkela with the help of the Forest Department of Odisha Government, NGOs and school students, it said.
RSP has taken a unique step by initiating a 'Carbon Sequestration through afforestation' project, as a part of which 2500 plants of species with high carbon sequestration potential have been planted.
This will further add to the massive carbon sink already created by RSP. Around 8000 saplings were also distributed in the periphery villages in order to create awareness amongst the villagers and promote plantation activities, the release added.
