SA 8000 is an international standard based on the UN Declaration of Human Rights, conventions of the ILO, international human rights norms and national labour laws, a release from RSP said.
Its various requirements include abnegation of child labour and forced or compulsory labour, maintaining health and safety requirements, respecting freedom of association and right to collective bargaining, non-discrimination, rejection of arbitrary disciplinary practices, adhering to specified working hours, meeting legal or industry specific remuneration practices and following laid down management systems.
