The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) today said it has been certified to the latest SA 8000: 2014 version, becoming the first among the sister units of Maharatna company SAIL to achieve the distinction.
SA 8000 is an international standard based on the UN Declaration of Human Rights, conventions of the ILO, international human rights norms and national labour laws, a release from RSP said.
Its various requirements include abnegation of child labour and forced or compulsory labour, maintaining health and safety requirements, respecting freedom of association and right to collective bargaining, non-discrimination, rejection of arbitrary disciplinary practices, adhering to specified working hours, meeting legal or industry specific remuneration practices and following laid down management systems.
It is worth mentioning here that RSP had earlier adopted the SA 8000: 2008 standard in 2013 and subsequently migrated to the new standard through a stringent two week long external audit.
