Many posts of information commissioners are lying vacant in Haryana. Due to this, many pleas are pending with the commission for over an year in the state, said 38-year-old Monish Kumar Sharma, a resident of Karnal and a social worker, who is sitting on fast unto death since August 8 near Mahatama Gandhi statue close to old court in the walled city.

Citing a ruling of Punjab and Haryana High court in April this year, he said that the court had given directions to the Haryana government to appoint information commissioners and set up a search committee for the purpose.

"However, till date the Haryana government had done nothing on this front...It amounts to contempt of court and violation of the RTI Act," he said.

Sharma said that he wants to meet Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is expected to visit Karnal on August 15.
