A plea before the Gujarat High Court alleged here today that an imprisoned accused in the RTI activist Amit Jethwa murder case runs an extortion racket from jail and allegedly intimidated a Patan-based petitioner to pay Rs 20 lakh he owed to a city-based moneylender.
Responding to a plea filed by petitioner Jitendra Thakkar, the Gujarat High Court issued notices to the Gujarat Home Secratary, the Director General of Police (CBI), the Inspector General (Prisons), the Police Inspector of Harij police station and Shailesh Pandya, the accused in the RTI activist's murder.
Justice Abhilasha Kumari of the Gujarat High Court directed the state government to provide security to Jitendra Thakkar and his family.
Shailesh Pandya was chargesheeted by CBI in Amit Jethwa murder case.
Jitendra Thakkar, a resident of Nana Joravarpura village of Sami taluka in Patan District, moved the plea before the High Court stating that Shailesh Pandya has been intimidating him from jail.
Jitendra's plea said that he had borrowed Rs 20 lakh in cash from one Dilip Thakkar after he incurred losses in stock market trading.
However, since Jitendra was unable to pay back his debt because of increasing interest on the principal amount, the moneylender and his aide Alpesh Panchal gave a contract to Shailesh Pandya to recover the money, the plea stated.
Accordingly, Shailesh Pandya allegedly started calling up and intimidating Jitendra Thakkar from Patan sub-jail, the plea stated.
