The Tripura Assembly today witnessed noisy scenes over alleged indecent remarks by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar towards the Judiciary.
In the reference period, Congress MLA and former Leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath asked Speaker Ramendra Nath whether a motion submitted by him was allowed for discussion.
The Speaker said he had rejected the motion as it was about the Judiciary and any matter related to the Judiciary should not be allowed for discussion.
Nath, however, said it was rejected because it was against the Chief Minister and he along with other opposition Congress MLAs rushed to the Well and started demanding a clarification on the matter.
As opposition members pressed on to allow the motion and raised slogans, the Speaker adjourned the House.
Later on Nath told reporters in the lobby that he had seen several reports in the media which said the Chief Minister tried to draw a perimeter of functioning for the judiciary.
"He made his remark at a function and I was not present there. So, our MLAs wanted a clarification, but the Speaker rejected the motion," he said.
