The ruling Congress and its allies in Meghalaya are to face tough questions over power crisis and the law and order situation in the Garo Hills region in the re-assembled budget session of the Assembly.
Scheduled to begin from Friday, the 10-day session will have seven working days and the remaining two days reserved for private members business during which the opposition parties have ample issues against the government.
"We'll definitely raise the issue of worsening law and order situation in the Garo hills region especially in the past one month during which a woman was shot dead after resisting molestation and rape and also the two custodial deaths in the last fortnight," National Peoples Party sources said.
Other opposition parties like the United Democratic Party (UDP), Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) and Garo National Council (GNC) have vowed to seek answers and remedies for the power crisis that has hit the common man.
On Friday, Speaker A T Mondal is scheduled to announce the names of the members nominated by him to the panel of chairmen while on June 11, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will reply on the budget discussion.
During the session, Sangma will also present a full budget for the fiscal year ending 2014-15.
Prior to the April-9 Lok Sabha elections, the House passed an Appropriation Bill that will end on June 30.
The chief minister had on March 19 tabled a Rs 527 crore deficit budget for 2014-15 with an estimated revenue receipts of Rs 11,128 crore, an estimated capital receipt of Rs 692 crore and an estimated expenditure of over Rs 11,000 crore.
