Congress workers in Puducherry today observed a fast against caste violence, communalism and the non-functioning of Parliament.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, the PCC president and PWD Minister A Namassivayam, Ministers, MLAs and functionaries of different wings of the Congress participated in the fast at the Swadeshi Cotton mills here as part of the nation wide protest of the party to condemn the "anti people policies" of the NDA government.

The women's outfits of the Congress also participated in the fast.

Narayanasamy told reporters that the Centre had failed to deliver the promises given to the people during the run up to the Lok Sabha polls in 2014.

He said that the Centre had also failed to respond to the directives of the Supreme court to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

There were communal clashes in different parts of the country, he said, adding, that to bring to focus the failure of the BJP led NDA government, the Congress leaders and functionaries were on day long fast as per the call given by the AICC.
