Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and several BJP leaders, including MPs and MLAs, are observing a day-long fast today in parts of the state to protest against the recent washout of the Budget Session of Parliament.

Although Rupani was scheduled to sit on a 'symbolic fast' with other BJP leaders at Lal Darwaja area here between 11 am and 5 pm, he decided to observe the fast while working from Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad city BJP president Jagdish Panchal said.

BJP leaders across the country are observing a day-long fast today to corner the opposition over the Parliament washout.

Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama joined the fast at Lal Darwaja along with Jagdish Panchal, city mayor Gautam Shah, Lok Sabha MP Kirit Solanki and other BJP leaders.

"The call for the day-long fast was given by our party after Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to observe a fast today to register a strong protest against the undemocratic ways of the Congress, which led to the washout of all the 23 days of the second part of the session," Solanki said.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel joined the protest in his constituency, Mehsana, while Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani sat on a fast at Vadodara with local MP Ranjanben Bhatt.

Other party leaders, state ministers, MPs and MLAs also observed fast at various places across the state, a BJP release said.
