Weakness of dollar in the overseas market also boosted the rupee value against the dollar.
The rupee opened higher at 65.25 per dollar as against the last weekend's level of 65.51 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market and firmed up further to 65.19 before finishing at a 7-week high of 65.29, showing a gain of 22 paise or 0.34 per cent. The local currency has gained by 87 paise or 1.31 per cent in last ten days.
It hovered in the range of 65.33 and 65.19 per dollar during the day.
The dollar index was traded down by 0.18 per cent against a basket of six currencies in the late afternoon trade.
