Besides the dollar's weakness against other currencies following disappointing first-quarter US economic growth, a higher opening in the local equity market also supported the rupee, dealers said.
The domestic currency had ended flat at Rs 52.54/55 against the dollar in Friday's trade.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex rose by 136.79 points, or 0.79 per cent, to 17,324.13 in early trade today. PTI SUN RS KPS RAH
