Besides, month-end demand for the American currency from importers weighed on the rupee but a higher opening in the domestic equity market capped the losses, forex dealers said.
The rupee had shed 13 paise to close at 64.04 against the US currency in the previous session.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex surged by 260.17 points or 0.93 per cent at 27,965.52 in early trade today.
