Two fast growing villages in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh would be developed under the Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) by the Union Ministry of Rural Development in collaboration with a private firm.
An MoU in this regard was signed on January 27 between the Ministry and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) towards development of twin villages Kondapalli and Ibrahimpatnam at a cost of Rs 187 crore.
Both the villages are shortlisted on the basis of their growth potential. A thermal power station and Kondapalli Industrial Development Area are already in place while another power plant, being constructed by a private firm, is coming up in the area.
The villages also figure on the tourism map of the Southern state for historical Kondapalli fort and known for wooden toys.
PURA was launched at a function in Ibrahimpatnam village on May 2, 2013, by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.
"Under the project, MEIL has to develop infrastructure, provide basic amenities to people and also develop tourism schemes in and around the villages by 2017," said P Shivshankar, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Krishna district.
