"The state government is committed to work for the empowerment of the rural population to ensure decentralisation by empowering the Panchayats," Gogoi said while speaking at the Panchayat Sanmilan here.
He said the government will continue to take new initiatives during the next five years as decentralisation of power was the primary requisite for rapid development of rural areas in the state.
Assam Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Rockybul Hussain said the panchayati raj system in the state has been strengthened under the present government.
Steps taken by the government have expedited the development process and this has made people of the state positive in their outlook, Hussain said.
