Ruskin Bond and Amitav Ghosh stars of Kolkata Literary Meet

Eminent authors like Ruskin Bond and Amitav Ghosh will be among the over 70 writers who will interact with book lovers at the annual Kolkata Literary Meet, later this month.
Ghosh, whose final part of the Ibis trilogy "Flood of Fire" is due for release this year, will be the star attraction on the last day of the five-day literary meet to be held from January 23 to 27 at the historic Victoria Memorial.
Legendary author of children's books Ruskin Bond will inaugurate the festival and talk about his life and works while former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's daughter Daman Singh, whose book "Strictly Personal" traces the journey of the former PM and his wife Gursharan Kaur's from the 1930s to 2004, will speak on her tryst with literature.

A platform for book reading sessions, discussions, debates, interactive workshops and cultural performances, other participants would include American writer Joanna Rakoff (My Salinger Year), music composer Shantanu Moitra (On the Wings of Music).
Actress Jaya Bachchan will talk about the writings of her father Taroon Coomar Bhaduri, while film-maker Shoojit Sircar will chat on whether north Kolkata is still the heart and soul of the city.
Shabana Azmi will read out translations of Tagore's works by her husband and lyricist-scriptwriter Javed Akhtar.

Going beyond books, vocalist Subha Mudgal will enchant audience with a solo musical performance.
Tata Steel, in the meantime, has signed up as the title sponsor for KLM for an initial period of five years.

Peeyush Gupta, company vice-president, said people lost the habit of listening in person living as they did in a digital age.
"We want Kolkatans to revive that feeling," he said, adding that they are also planning day-long off-site events of KLM in Jamshedpur or somewhere in Odisha.
