The 37-year-old actor was at Solar Studios for filming this week's instalment of his chat show 'BrandX' and said that the people named Katy are a pain for him, reported Sun online.
"Anyway, enough of you, I've had enough pain from people called Katy in the last year," he said.
Providing some more information about him and the show, a source said, " Russell was in great form, having some banter with the audience. Then he came across this audience member who was named Katy. They were having some chat about whether Katy could satisfy her boyfriend in bed when, all of a sudden, Russell shouted the comment on her. It was a blatant reference to Katy Perry."
The estranged couple's divorce was finalised over this weekend.
