Russian co to provide reactor equipment for KKNPP unit 3

To take forward the work on unit 3 of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP), India has signed a contract with a Russian firm to produce critical reactor equipment.
The contract was signed between OJSC, a subsidiary company of Rosatam - counterpart of India's Department of Atomic Energy - and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) at its Izhorskiye Zavody facility at Izhora yesterday.
In a statement, Rosatom said the contract was not the first collaboration with NPCIL, and OJSC, in the past, had supplied primary circuit equipment for KKNPP's first two units.
"The major reactor equipment will be supplied in 2018. Production cycle of a reactor vessel body is 3 years," Rosatom said. It however, refused to divulge information on the agreement cost.

The first phase of work on construction of units 3 and 4 is scheduled to start early next year, Rosatom said. The total cost of unit 3 and 4 is around Rs 39,747 crore.
KKNPP is being built within the frameworks of bilateral agreement signed on November 20, 1988, and on the basis of its supplement signed on June 21, 1998. Rosatom said it plans to construct four units at the same site.
The KKNPP currently has one operational reactor unit 1 of 1,000 MW. Another unit of 1,000 MW is expected to get operational in this financial year.
