The 35-year-old actor, who is best known for his roles in "Green Lantern" and "The Proposal", will now play Scotsman Connor MacLeod in the new version of the 80s classic, reported Contactmusic.
The original film was directed by Russell Mulachy and written by Gregory Widen. It starred Christopher Lambert as Connor and Sean Connery played the part of Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez.
The film did not receive a good reception upon release in the US but had persistent popularity in Europe, and saw several sequels and a TV spin-offs.
The date of release has not been confirmed yet.
