Prior to this, Gopinath was with BHEL's power plant piping unit here. He replaces A V Krishnan who attained superannuation, BHEL said in a statement.
Gopinath joined BHEL Tiruchirappalli in 1979 as a graduate engineer trainee.
He had served BHEL during the planning and implementation of major modernisation and capacity augmentation schemes, attracting investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
He underwent training on Robotics in Japan and also United States and the Netherlands for selecting machine tools for BHEL, it added.
