S Prasanna Kumar takes charge of CSIR-NIO

Physical oceanographer S Prasanna Kumar has taken charge as Acting Director of Goa-based CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), following retirement of incumbent director S W A Naqvi, an official statement said today.
"S Prasanna Kumar, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NIO has taken charge as Acting Director of CSIR-NIO, with effect from September 1, 2016 on superannuation of S W A Naqvi," NIO said in a statement.
Kumar, a physical oceanographer, is a chief scientist and head of physical oceanography division at the NIO.
"He has more than 30 years of experience in carrying out multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional studies of national and international importance," the statement said.
Naqvi had joined the organisation in 1974 and served there in various capacities for a period of more than four decades.
He was selected as an Outstanding Scientist in 2010, and took over as the Director of the Institute in 2012.
