S S Rajendran passes away

Veteran actor-politician, SS Rajendran died here today following illness, his family said.
Rajendran, popularly known as SSR, was admitted to a private hospital yesterday where he breathed his last this morning.
Rajendran (86), who started off his career as a theatre artiste, later ventured into Tamil cinema and carved a place for himself with his impeccable dialogue delivery.
His notable films include 'Parasakthi', the debut movie of veteran actor 'Sivaji' Ganesan, 'Poompuhar', 'Marakka Mudiuma,' 'Kumudam', 'Naanum Oru Penn,' and 'Raja Desingu', among others
He has acted in many family dramas and was fondly addressed as 'Latchiya Nadigar' (Actor of Principles) by his fans.
Drawn by the policies of Dravidian veteran and DMK founder, the late CN Annadurai, SSR later joined the party, and successfully contested the 1962 assembly elections and was also elected to the Rajya Sabha in the latter part of his political career.
He later joined AIADMK. Rajendran was one of the earliest actor-politicians in India.
