SAC hails Mufti for rehabilitation package for PoK refugees
Press Trust of India Jammu A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (SAC) today called on Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and expressed its gratitude for "vigorously pursuing" inclusion of rehabilitation package for refugees from PoK in the economic and developmental assistance announced by the Centre.
SAC President Gurdev Singh claimed that it was for the first time any state government has made "strenuous efforts" in meeting their long-pending demand of compensation, for which an amount of Rs 2,000 crore has been earmarked.
The delegation also presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting some of their other demands for early consideration of the government.
The Jammu and Kashmir state government had approved the financial package for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) refugees. The Centre had asked the state for a proposal for relief and rehabilitation of the refugees, resulting in the state government approving this proposal.
The government has constituted a cabinet sub-committee, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Kumar Singh, which will recommend the manner in which this rehabilitation package will be distributed amongst the intended beneficiaries.
