Sacrilegious act: Brothers claim torture in police custody

Two brothers, arrested in connection with alleged sacrilegious act and released later from jail due to lack of evidence against them, today alleged that they were tortured mentally and physically by police.
The duo -- Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh -- said after taking legal opinion Sikh organisations would take up the matter with the court.
Sikh preachers Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Panthpreet Singh, Rajinder Singh said the case would be pursued in the court against police atrocities against the two brothers of Panjgrain Khurd village.
Both the brothers were present at press conference held here.
The religious leaders also criticised the police as well as the state government for not taking appropriate action against policemen involved in police firing at Behbal Kalan in which two persons were killed.
The brothers reiterated that they were falsely implicated by police in sacrilege incident at Bargari village in Faridkot district last month.
Faridkot SSP Sukhmander Singh Mann said the two brothers were arrested on the basis of evidence and police also wanted to corroborate the same by conducting lie-detector test, for which they did not agreed.
The Sikh preachers also called upon the activists to reach at Amritsar on November 10 to participate in 'Sarbat Khalsa' (a congregation of Sikhs).
