SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab heading for a break-up: Bajwa
Press Trust of India Chandigarh Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa today claimed that the SAD-BJP alliance in the state was heading for a break-up with both the parties having lost trust in each other.
In a statement issued here, Bajwa alleged that the SAD and the BJP "have common interests" in communal politics to forward their business interest. He said Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal was desperate "after sensing poor performance of his party in the coming Lok Sabha polls".
He said that while the BJP is dependent on the support of urban voters in the state, "Sukhbir has been poaching traders and other urban sections to deprive BJP of its strength."
Bajwa claimed that the BJP had lost its support base among the traders since it failed to safeguard their interests. He said that BJP didn't resist the imposition of heavy taxes, mainly the property tax, on urban people.
