"The situation was fast developing towards lawlessness and financial emergency. Once things get out of control, whether it was the economy or law and order, the President's rule is the obvious consequence," Singh said while addressing a public meeting here.

He claimed that several other opposition parties have agreed that the state government was only imposing "punitive" taxes on people.

However, Singh said that Congress would resort to all the legal and democratic options like protests and bandhs to make this government reverse the anti-people decisions.

Meanwhile, youth Congress leader of Amritsar Shalinder Singh Shally said that the autocratic attitude of PPPC president has weakened the party.

Shally, who recently unsuccessfully contested general assembly election against the strongest SAD candidate Bikram Majithia from the Majitha constituency, claimed that Singh in the consultation with another leader Lali Majithia has ignored the district level leadership.
