The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will constitute a panel of lawyers at the sub-division, district and state levels to provide legal-aid to party workers who fear "harassment" by the ruling Congress in Punjab.
"The SAD will not tolerate the vendetta being unleashed by the ruling party against its workers. Any onslaught on Akali workers will be opposed tooth and nail by the party," a SAD spokesman said here.
To help aggrieved Akali workers, the party will constitute a panel of lawyers at the sub-division, district and state levels, he said.
"The party leadership has noted that in a short span of two weeks of Congress rule, three SAD workers have been murdered and many others have been criminally assaulted," the spokesman said.
He claimed that several incidents have come to the party's notice where "Congress members are threatening SAD leaders who are heading and managing duly elected bodies".
"The Congress government is working overtime to dislodge them by adopting all unfair means, including threats of registering false cases against them," the spokesman claimed.
"This is an illegal, unwarranted and undemocratic act of the Congress leaders," he said.
However, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has ruled out vendetta politics by his government.
