Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra today demanded action against Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for allegedly breaching the protocol during Independence Day function in Ferozepur.
Chandumajra, who is also Member Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib, alleged that Sidhu "violated" the protocol by allowing Congress leaders on his vehicle while inspecting the guard of honour.
He said the state government had taken action against police officers who tried to stop the Congress leaders.
A police inspector was suspended yesterday for the breach of protocol during the Independence Day function.
The action was taken as several Congress leaders boarded the police gypsy when Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was the chief guest, was on it to inspect the "guard of honour", the officials had said.
MLA Satkar Kaur, the district's Congress chief Chamkaur Singh Dhindsa, former minister Inderjit Singh Zira and party leader Harinder Singh Khosa had boarded the vehicle, they had said.
