The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will make the Congress government's performance, including on law and order, the main poll issue in the forthcoming elections to the municipal corporations in Punjab.
Presiding over a meeting of councillors of Jalandhar at the party head office here today, former minister Daljit Singh Cheema, said the SAD would highlight the alleged "complete breakdown" of law and order in the state.
Cheema, who has been made in-charge of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Nawansheher districts to take feedback on formation of the new party organisation, alleged that all development work had come to a halt in all cities in the state.
"The work which was in progress has been stalled with the government withdrawing money already released for it. New projects which were in the pipeline have also been stopped. Even water and sewerage projects have been affected by this anti-people decision," the senior SAD leader claimed.
He said the party would hold a meeting in Jalandhar on May 28 to take feedback from the councillors as well as party representatives about the new organisational structure in the district.
"Committee members including me, Paramjit Sidhwan and Sant Singh Umaidpur will interact with party workers and cadre to take their suggestions on this issue. We are keen that the organisational structure, right up to the ward level, is formed at the earliest," he added.
All SAD councillors of Jalandhar attended today's meeting here in which party Jalandhar Cantonment candidate Sarabjit Singh Makkar and senior district leaders Charanjit Singh and Baljeet Singh Neelmahal were also present.
