Salem turmeric price touches Rs ten thousand a quintal

Price of Salem turmeric has increased and was sold above Rs 10,000 a quintal at the market today, trade sources said.
"Salem finger and root variety Turmeric is best quality.. The particular turmeric variety was sold at Rs 9349 a quintal on March 16 and was sold at Rs 10,189 a quintal the next day ... Now because of the demand for the same it was sold at Rs 10,801 on Friday..." said R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said local variety turmeric prices are decreasing daily and today it was sold at Rs 8500 to Rs 8600 a quintal of old turmeric while new turmeric was sold at Rs 8725 a quintal. Traders said for want of upcountry demand, they are buying limited stocks by quoting decreased price.

Friday price: At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at Rs 5711 to Rs 8505 a quintal, root variety at Rs 5434 to Rs 7699 a quintal.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety was sold at Rs 6819 to Rs 8725 a quintal, root variety at Rs 6469 to Rs 7749 a quintal.
Salem Turmeric: the finger variety was sold at Rs 6711 to Rs 10,801 a quintal, root variety at Rs 6469 to Rs 8114 a quintal. Of a total arrival of 2559 bags of turmeric, 1210 bags were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7445 to Rs 8513 a quintal, root turmeric at Rs 6669 to Rs 7770 a quintal. Of 1501 bags of turmeric, 1350 bags were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7199 to Rs 8499 a quintal and the root variety were sold at Rs 6899 to Rs 7720 a quintal. Of 1473 bags of turmeric, 1299 bags were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7365 to Rs 8589 a quintal, root variety at Rs 7135 to Rs 7769 a quintal. All the 257 bags of turmeric placed for sale were sold.
