With family members of the slain Raju Saha terming his death as a cold-bloded murder by the police, the Sambalpur District Crime Record Bureau today began probe into the incident.
A DSP level officer will probe into the circumstances under which Raju Saha was gunned down by the police during police encounter in Dengsaragi area under Ainthapali police limits yesterday, said Sambalpur SP Akhileshwar Singh.
The SP said four guns used in the encounter from both sides will be sent to Forensic Laboratory for tests. The investigation will be supervised by Jharsuguda SP, Singh said.
"The probe into the encounter will be done as per the NHRC guidelines and judgement of Supreme Court in this regard," the SP said.
The family members of the victim alleged that Raju was killed by the police team.
The investigation will look into the circumstances under which the encounter happened, whether there were other options with the police besides the encounter and other angles associated with it.
Saha, involved in several crimes in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts was killed in the encounter where one Police Sub-Inspector was injured.
Raju, who allegedly opened fire at the police during the raid, was seriously hurt in the return fire by the police and succumbed to his injuries on the way to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla.
