Hayek, 50, posted on Twitter, "Good luck to @akshaykumar on @ToiletTheFilm out today! End #OpenDefecation now! No woman should fear going to the toilet! #ToiletEkPremKatha".
Akshay, who met Hayek last year in Dubai at the Global Teachers Prize 2016, thanked the actor for supporting the initiative.
"Thank you for your wishes for our small effort towards #GoingODF : #ToiletEkPremKatha," he replied.
"Toilet: Ek Prem Katha" is directed by Shree Narayan Singh and backed by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
Set against the backdrop of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the movie also features Bhumi Pednekar and Anupam Kher.
