The 47-year-old filmmaker is teaming up with his "Skyfall" co-writer John Logan for the period show which he is developing and offering to UK broadcasters and Stateside cable channels, reported Sun online.

"The show will be set in London in the the 1800s and focus on a vampire hunter who will encounter the likes of Van Helsing and Dr Frankenstein," a source said.

Mendes is to produce and possibly direct the show, which will be filmed in the UK through the director's Neal Street Productions.

The company was set up by him and partners Pippa Harris and Caro Newling in 2003. It is responsible for BBC drama 'The Midwives'.

Mendes directed the latest 007 film, starring Daniel Craig, which is raking in moolah at the box office and is being lauded as the best ever Bond.
