Samajwadi Party names Kanaklata for RS bypoll

Samajwadi Party today named Kanaklata Singh as party candidate for the bypoll to the Rajya Sabha seat which fell vacant following the demise of her father Mohan Singh.
Kanaklata is the elder daughter of Singh who died after a prolonged illness here in September.
Though she has no political experience, she was fielded as SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav thought that Mohan Singh's legacy should continue, party leaders said.
Two Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh fell vacant after the demise of Singh, and disqualification of Congress MP Rasheed Masood following his conviction in the MBBS seat scam.
The ruling party in Uttar Pradesh is yet to decide on the name of the second candidate.

The proceedings of the Upper House are likely to be adjourned on Thursday - the first day of the Winter session - as a mark of respect for Singh.
