Sambar deer rescued from east Delhi's Dallupura village

A male Sambar deer surfaced today near east Delhi's Dallupura village and was later rescued by authorities, but not before tiggering chaos among the locals.
A senior forest department official said the deer, that may have strayed from its habitat due to "stress", was spotted in the morning.
It injured a person before being eventually captured towards the evening, he said.
"This species is commonly found in forests in and around the national capital, and even in the Delhi Golf Club. It is being translocated to the Asola Wildlife Sanctuary," the official said.
Faiyaz Khudsar, scientist in-charge at Yamuna Biodiversity Park, said Sambars are the biggest among the types of deer found in India.

"They are browsers, in the sense that they pluck leaves or saplings unlike varieties that graze," Khudsar said.
