With the Samjhauta Express cancelled for a second time, India today said it will arrange transport for about 20 Indians stuck in Lahore to take them to Wagah border for their early return.
The '14001 Delhi-Attari Express' scheduled to leave Old Delhi station on October 11 and '14002 Attari-Delhi Express' scheduled to leave Attari on October 12 will remain cancelled, said a Northern Railway statement.
"In view of Indian Railways stating today that due to intensification of agitation in Punjab, Samjhauta Express will not run on 11-12 October 2015 also. High Commission of India in Islamabad has proposed to Government of Pakistan that the High Commission of India would like to organise transport at own cost for about 20 Indians stuck in Lahore to take them to Wagah/Attari for their early return to India," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.
"Government of Pakistan's clearance in this regard is awaited," he said.
Over 200 Indian and Pakistani passengers of Samjhauta Express were on Thursday stranded at the Wagah railway station for over five hours after the train was not allowed to leave for Attari.
Pakistan yesterday summoned India's Acting Deputy High Commissioner S Raghuram and expressed concern over the cancellation of operation of Samjhauta Express due to farmer protest on the Indian side.
